Use of electronic food stamps rises
An increasing number of states are moving to food stamps issued electronically but the lack of interoperable systems among states is challenging the widespread use of the debit-like cards.Mary Ann Keeffe acting undersecretary for food nutrition and consumer services at the Agriculture Department told a House subcommittee last week that the percentage of food stamps delivered electronically to states has increased from about 2 percent in 1993 to 16 percent.
