Pac-10 Men’s Soccer Freshman of the Year dies in car accident.
Oregon State football student athletes gentlemen Joe Zaher was killed Sunday evening due to complications from injuries sustained in a car accident in his hometown of Las Vegas, NEV. He was 18
The accident occurred about 1:30 am Sunday morning, if Zaher (pronounced Zay-ER), a passenger and two friends were on their way to an attention to the night Bowling event. In rainy conditions, the car lost control and met a bar.
Zaher submitted to seven-one and a half hour surgery, but he was unable to overcome serious internal injuries. The second driver and passenger were not seriously injured.
“Joe was an incredible individual, OSU Dana Taylor said the coach.” He has a unique, fun and character affectionate dedication to the team.
“In the territory, his touch was brilliant. He was able to escape and the defender has had a penchant for the development of its possibilities. He epitomized hard work and dedication.
“From the region, it was the best friend of everybody,” said Taylor. “His love for this section of the University and his colleagues at the team was unparalleled. He grew both in the last four months as a person and an athlete.
“Joe is missed expensive on the spot, but for most of the area, it was and what he brought to the team as an individual.”
Zaher was recently named Pacific-10 Conference Freshman of the Year, OSU freshman after scoring record with 25 points. He led the PAC-10 with four goals Thursday to win and was a key element of OSU’s resurgence in 2002, which Beavers to a school record 13 victories and the first time at the NCAA College Cup.
“This is a tragic loss not only for men’s football, but also for the Oregon State Community”, the director of the OSU Athletic de Carolis said Bob. “Joe’s family and friends our deepest condolences, and they are in our thoughts and prayers. Joe is deeply missed.
Zaher leaves his parents, Jack and Maureen, brothers Mike and Sean Zac and sister, everyone.
