Kulongoski willing to sue if LNG ports not good for Oregon
EUGENE, Ore.. (AP) - Gov. Ted Kulongoski said Monday it is prepared to go to court to ensure that all the liquefied natural gas scheduled for the necessary facilities Oregon, and a safe.
Kulongoski, was a response to a letter from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission concerning questioned proposals to build facilities at the mouth of the Columbia River and Coos Bay unloading of LNG and feed the pipeline serving the West Coast.
The Energy Commission rejects the proposal by the governor, a regional review of LNG projects. After noting they meet environmental protection standards and public safety, the Commission has said it will be the marketplace that will determine which projects will be built.
“I met with the Attorney General,” said Kulongoski The Associated Press. “I will watch to ensure that the law is respected. While I do not want to go to court to protect the interests of Oregon and the citizens of this state, I will seek, if necessary, the Attorney General, are resorting to litigation. ”
LNG proposals have stirred controversy in Oregon, Welcoming employment and taxes they generate, and other residents disdaining the potential effects on the environment and the use highly probable domain to take land farming, vineyards and forests for hundreds of miles of pipeline.
Energy companies have proposed three buildings of LNG terminals in the state of a Coos Bay and two on the Columbia River. The terminals wouldnt supercooled imports of natural gas on ships, heating the liquid in a gas and gas boat on the West Coast of the market by one of the four proposed pipelines.
The governor said he was surprised by the position of the FERC, after having accompanied the efforts of the State to a limitation on the size of the tree, energy buoys to avoid conflict with the potential to sailors reserve along the coast of Oregon.
“They are willing to work with the states, if it think it is to his advantage,” he said.
Kulongoski noted that Senator Ron Wyden, D-Ore. And other legislation Monday to restore state control over the siting of energy, was withdrawn by federal law in 2005.
